Teen Dating Crisis

Keeping teens from the healthy future they deserve:

The following 5 detours are the most common reason teens fail at relationships. By taking a closer look at our culture, it is easy to see why these all merge together to blur the vision of even the most unsuspecting teen; very rarely does one happen without the influence of 1 or more. Without proper education and support, our kids are on a collision course and will very often end up in the junkyard of broken hearts. And that is the least of it…

1. Teen Drug and Alcohol Abuse

Nearly 72% of students will have had a drink before the end of High School. Prescription drugs are the fastest growing drug use among teens. Add the influence of teenage “love” and the underdeveloped teen brain and you have a cocktail that kills hope and dreams faster than you can say “keg stand.”

2. Teen Sex and Pregnancy

Only 16% of teens have had sex by age 15, compared with one-third of those aged 16, nearly half (48%) of those aged 17, 61% of 18-year-olds and 71% of 19-year-olds. Birth control does not protect emotions and the impact of lifelong consequences.

3. Teen Dating Violence and Abuse

Nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year. One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence. But digital abuse is something new and at epic proportions, harassment and abuse through the gadgets we buy our kids insures that no where teens go is out of reach.

4. Teen Depression, Anxiety, Stress and even Suicide

Without listing statistics, we all know a teen that has experienced one of these emotional consequences – sometimes to the point of tragedy. Teens are crushed by breakups or rejection and with social media fueling the problem, struggling teens can’t seem to break free.

5. Social Media, Texting and Sexting

22% of girls and 18% of boys took naked or seminude pictures of themselves and posted them online.

We are in the midst of a teen dating crisis and spinning out of control. Until we put a curriculum and structure in place, our teens will never have the tools they need to navigate the teen dating years and emerge unscathed.

Safe teen dating does not happen by accident. It’s time to STOP RECKLESS DATING!
